Would you rather be on the golf course with your mates or fielding questions from HMRC about the employment status of your subbies?
Even if you aren’t a golf fan, we bet you’d prefer to face 18 holes.
In fact, there’s probably a whole host of things you’d find preferable to an HMRC enquiry.
After all, construction firms have enough to contend with without having to justify the way they work with their subbies.
That’s why we started HardHats. We take on our client’s risk and field any enquiries, so they can enjoy a few rounds of golf with complete peace of mind they’re protected.
And, by the way, while we’re on the subject of golf, we have some exciting news to share…
HardHats are the proud new sponsor of Toby Tree
Toby Tree has been a pro golfer since 2014 after shining as an amateur golfer throughout his younger years.
In 2017, he made the cut for the 146th Open Championship at Royal Birkdale and then secured his card at Qualifying School Final Stage in 2019, earning a rookie season on the European Tour.
Toby is currently playing in the DP World Tour, but unfortunately, an injury has led to his card being downgraded, meaning he is having to graft extra hard.
We were introduced to Toby through a mutual connection on LinkedIn (don’t you just love the power of social media).
And once we heard his story, we didn’t hesitate to show our support.
We’re here for the underdogs
You might be wondering what sponsoring Toby has to do with HardHats, but there is logic to our actions.
Firstly, we love golf. When we’re not busy protecting construction firms from HMRC enquiries, you’ll likely find us working on our swing.
Our passion for golf, combined with our dedication to the construction industry, is one of the reasons we’re also big supporters of The Lighthouse Charity.
But our love of golf isn’t the only reason we decided to show Toby our support.
His injury has resulted in his card being downgraded, which means he has to work extra hard. And we saw a little bit of HardHats in that story.
You see, we’re a bit of an underdog.
Not only are we going up against all the big payroll companies, but we’re also going up against all the lies, mistruths and bullshit about how you can and can’t work with subbies.
Add to that the fact that we’re the only company in the UK offering what we offer, which means we have the extra challenge of convincing people we’re not talking bollocks.
So just like Toby with his injury, we’re working at a disadvantage.
We have to find a way to show construction firms why a service nobody else offers is better than what everyone else is offering, and that half of what they’ve been told is absolute crap.
But guess what? We’re doing it.
Because what we’re offering isn’t actually all that different. We’re taking the same thing payroll companies use to protect themselves from HMRC and offering it directly to construction firms.
You get to keep control of your payroll and cashflow. Your subbies don’t have to pay a fee to get their wages. And HMRC won’t ever misinterpret the relationship you have with your subbies.
Because let’s face it – construction firms are often the underdogs too.
Not only do you have all the everyday challenges that come with running a business, but you also have a load of additional challenges to overcome too, like navigating CIS.
But we’ve got your back. We might be underdogs ourselves, but we’re here fighting the good fight for the other underdogs too.
So ifyou want to work with your subbies long-term without using a payroll company or upsetting HMRC, we’d love to hear from you.
